Civil Suit Records

(225) 389-3972

One of the primary functions of the Civil Suit Records Department is assisting the public with checking out and viewing records. Civil suits are located in the front of the suit department, beginning with number 476,270. Family and Probate records are housed in the back of the department, beginning with Family 116,839 and Probate 70,600. The records housed in these areas may be checked out to Baton Rouge attorneys at the counter located in each department.

Records preceding these numbers are housed in the Archives Department, but may be ordered and sent to the Record Room on runs made four times daily.

Promissory notes are also housed in this department, but these documents cannot be checked out like the suit records.

Certified copies or act of congress certifications of documents/pleadings filed in these records are also obtained from these departments.

Notice of Service cards and Notice of Signing Cards are mailed out from this department.

The Record Room also acts as a Court Liaison by providing four runs to the Judges' offices daily.
