Notary Exam. In accordance with Act No. 423 of the Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, 2006, the notary examination shall be given on the first Saturday of June and December. Should the scheduled Saturday be a state holiday; then the next non-holiday Saturday shall be the test date.

Parish Application. The Committee shall require each Applicant to submit to the Court an Application to be appointed a notary public, together with a certificate establishing the Applicant’s age, residence, location of the office if the applicant seeks to be appointed a notary based on such office, location of the office that was the basis for a current appointment as a notary in another parish, if any, and a statement as to the Applicant’s good moral character, integrity, competency, and sober habits, sworn to and subscribed by two reputable citizens of the Parish.

Secretary of State Application. In addition to the East Baton Rouge Parish application as set forth above, each applicant must register with the Secretary of State’s office upon a form to be made available by the Secretary of State. This form shall be completed and attached to the application of the East Baton Rouge Notarial Committee.



The Application to Qualify for Appointment as Notary Public.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Application form annexed hereto as Appendix A, along with the Secretary of State Application, must be used when applying for a notary commission in East Baton Rouge Parish. When complete, the Applicant shall file the Applications with the Clerk of Court and Recorder of Mortgages for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (downtown office only) no later than 60 days prior to the date of the exam. PLEASE NOTE THE PARISH DEADLINE IS PRIOR TO THE SECRETARY OF STATE'S DEADLINE. You must provide a second copy of all paperwork submitted. If a copy is not included, the applicant may purchase a copy for .50 per page. The Applicant or his representative must acquire the Applications either by appearing at the Clerk of Court's office located at 222 St. Louis Street, or by electronically accessing the Clerk of Court's website (www.ebrclerkofcourt.org) and the Secretary of State's website (www.sec.state.la.us). The Clerk of Court will not mail or fax the Applications.

Forms of Payment Regarding Fees

All fees payable to the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court must be submitted in the form of cash, cashier’s check, official bank check, money order, credit card or debit card.

All fees payable to the Secretary of State must be submitted in the form of a personal check, cashier’s check or money order.
